In 2019 all lead service lines were replaced and crosswalk signs were installed on Oakland between Parkview and Howard. This year, the Oakland Drive Project will be completed with the following improvements:
Road repaving and bike lane improvements
Sidewalk repairs and ADA ramp upgrades
Water Main Replacement
Crosswalk Painting
Pedestrian Island at Maple Street for safer school crossing
New Crosswalk at Chevy Chase Blvd
Road work is scheduled to start in April and is expected to be completed in September. This construction will occur in two phases with two detour routes. More information on this project and detour route maps are available on the project page. An FAQ sheet will be posted there shortly as well. Postcards are also being mailed to residents in areas neighboring Oakland Drive.
This project was informed by input from the 2018 Community Bike Survey, an Oakland Drive community design meeting in May 2019, Imagine Winchell neighborhood planning, and Safe Routes to School action planning.
