NFP Phase 2, Special Meeting of the NFP Review Board on 10/13

At the September 29 Natural Features Protection (NFP) Review Board meeting, staff presented information on the NFP Phase 2 project including information on the mapping analysis, community input, and proposed updates to the NFP overlay map. Natural Features Protection Initiative Wins MAP Award as Overlay Work Continues

The City of Kalamazoo’s Natural Features Protection (NFP) initiative has been awarded the Environmental Planning Award by the Michigan Association of Planning (MAP/APA Michigan). The Award recognizes “efforts to create more sustainable and greener communities that reduce the impact of development on the natural environment and improve environmental quality.” This award comes as City staff work to further refine natural features protection in the city through a second phase of the NFP initiative.

June 2020 Update - Kalamazoo Sustainability Strategy

In April and May two of our city staff members were awarded scholarships to participate in an online training course through the Association of Climate Change Officers (https://climateofficers.org/)

The course is part of the path toward earning the credential of Certified Climate Change Professional (CC-P).

While the community stays home and stays safe in response to the COVID crisis, work continues on the Sustainability Strategy. In March we held a waste focus group and met 1:1 with the Community Resiliency Coordinator for the Kalamazoo County Response Consortium (KCRC).
