The City of Kalamazoo will host a community meeting to hear resident feedback and share information about upcoming road construction projects planned in the Westnedge Hill area. The meeting will take place on Monday, October 24 from 7-8:30 p.m. at the Kalamazoo YMCA at 1001 W Maple Street in the Community Room.

The meeting will focus on upcoming projects on Whites Road, Bronson Boulevard, and Inkster Avenue, including traffic calming and an update on the bridge. City staff, including Neighborhood Activator Jae Slaby and Senior Civil Engineer George Waring, will be available to discuss these projects and other topics with community members.

Construction is scheduled to begin on Whites Road in 2023. A coordinated infrastructure project will replace water main, improve stormwater management, and reconstruct the street with a road diet, making the street three lanes: one lane in each direction with a center turn lane.

Early planning is underway for work on Bronson Boulevard from Kilgore Road to near Crosstown Parkway. The road will be resurfaced and painted to right size the vehicle lanes and add bike facilities to the already signed bike route. Staff will be seeking feedback on the preferred type of bicycle facilities and on-street parking needs.

Reconstruction of the Inkster Avenue bridge will be coordinated with work on Bronson Boulevard, and staff will be seeking feedback on traffic calming opportunities on Inkster Avenue as well. This work likely won’t occur until 2024 or later, depending on the availability of funding.
