A coordinated construction project on Oakland Drive is scheduled to begin Monday, April 27. The City of Kalamazoo replaced all lead water services on this section of road in 2019, and new water main will be installed this year before the project is finished with street resurfacing and improved non-motorized features.

2020 work on Oakland Drive will include:

  • Water Main Replacement

  • Road repaving & bike lane improvements

  • Tree heaved sidewalk repairs & ADA curb ramp upgrades

  • New crosswalk at Chevy Chase

  • Pedestrian island installed at Maple Street

The project will be completed in two phases, with work initially beginning between Whites Road and Parkview Avenue. This phase of the project is expected to last from April 27 - May 28. The second phase of the project is expected to begin immediately after and be completed in October. Work will proceed north on Oakland Drive from the Whites/Oakland intersection.

Detours will be posted and will differ for each phase of construction. Access to homes and businesses will be maintained, including access to Oakwood Plaza.
